I’m a Democrat. I’m voting for Adam Laxalt.

I’m a Democrat. I’m voting for Adam Laxalt. These days, it seems like politics is all about what tribe you’re a part of and what team you’re on. That’s not how it used to be. When I was the speaker of the Assembly, I worked with Republicans and Democrats. Once we were elected we forgot about party designation and focused on what was good and proper for Nevada and its citizens. We all worked together. We got things done. It was about people, not politics.

I know Adam will bring that same spirit to the governor’s office. His service won’t be about winning or losing. It will be about right or wrong. I know that because I know the kind of man he is. I know he cares about people. I know he puts the people he serves ahead of his own interests.

There was a time when doing the right thing was more important than scoring political points or keeping big donors happy. Leaders worked together. Despite how turbulent politics can be these days, Adam has brought people together to solve big issues before. He has found areas of agreement and worked to get results. Protecting seniors, protecting women, protecting veterans — he’s done it all, usually with the help of people in both parties.

Nevadans have always had an independent streak. We don’t like to be told what to do. I may be a Democrat, but I know who the right man is to be Nevada’s next governor. This is bigger than party politics. It’s about Nevada’s future.

If you’re like me, and you care more about voting for the person than voting for the party, I’d urge you to vote for Adam Laxalt. He’s a good man who will be a great governor.
