16 Nevada Sheriffs Endorse Adam Laxalt for Governor

Laxalt campaign draws broad support from coalition of Nevada sheriffs

RENO, Nevada — Adam Laxalt, candidate for Governor of Nevada, today received the endorsement of 16 of the 17 sheriffs in the state of Nevada. The broad coalition is just the latest example of the strong support Laxalt continues to receive from Nevada’s local law-enforcement communities.

“Adam Laxalt has been an incredibly dedicated and effective Attorney General who has always put the safety of Nevadans first,” said Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts. “He has worked tirelessly to develop closer working relationships and better communication with local law enforcement, and that commitment has been so important in keeping our local citizens safe.”

Ron Pierini, Sheriff of Douglas County, added: “Nevadans need a Governor who understands the challenges of local law enforcement, and who has demonstrated that he has not only the dedication, but also the character and integrity to set the right priorities for our state and never waver from his commitments. Adam Laxalt has shown time and time again that he is exactly that kind of leader. I’m honored to join my fellow Sheriffs in endorsing him to be our next Governor.”

As Attorney General, Laxalt has made it a top priority to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement agencies at the state and local levels. Among his achievements has been the creation of Nevada’s first-ever Law Enforcement Summit, which he now hosts twice a year, bringing together officials from all 17 counties to help effectively address emerging criminal trends.

“Promoting the safety of our citizens, and upholding law and order, has been my chief responsibility as Attorney General, and it will remain a top priority of mine as Governor,” Laxalt said. “I’m honored and grateful to have the support of our sheriffs.”

Laxalt, a Republican, was sworn into office on January 5, 2015, making him Nevada’s 33rd Attorney General. A father, husband, and fourth-generation native Nevadan, Laxalt is also a former Navy Lieutenant who served as a Judge Advocate General, and volunteered to serve in a combat zone in Iraq, where he and his unit helped detain and prosecute thousands of war criminals and terrorists. As Attorney General, Laxalt has taken a bold, results-driven approach to serving the people of Nevada, pursuing justice for victims, protecting the state’s most vulnerable citizens, and increasing services for members of the military community.
